Glass Bottom Boats

The glass bottom boat ride, is a great group endeavour, for one to experience with family or friends. Traversing the choppy shores of Hikkaduwa, one can witness the splendour of the corals and fish, seeing the fauna of the Indian ocean through a transparent window at the base of the boat.

Tsunami Museum

Community Tsunami Museum is aimed educating communities on Tsunami and preserve the memories of 2004 Tsunami. This museum is the continuation of the efforts of Third Wave Volunteers lead by Dr. Alison Thompson (author of The Third Wave - A volunteer Story and the director of Film Third Wave). This museum will take you a touching journey through science and history of 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Tickets to the museum can be arranged as well on behalf of the guest for their safety.

Turtle Hatchery

The centre functions mainly as a hatchery and makes huge efforts to increase the rate of hatching, and survival of baby turtles in their very initial stages. However the Care centre also works on sick or injured adults; treating them and releasing them back into the ocean. They also run volunteer programs and awareness programs for local and international visitors.

Moon Stone Mine

Have you ever wondered where that pretty little moonstone on your finger actually comes from? Head inland 7km to Mitiyagoda and you can descend (not literally) into the mucky world of mining – 18th-century style! Moonstone has been mined in these sweltering forests forever and the moonstone mines, little more than muddy rabbit holes, 6m or 7m long, are fascinating – as is the process of filtering out the precious stones and polishing them ready for sale.

Rathgama Lagoon by Catamaran
